As you may have already read in our previous entry, Valdivia can be visited on a weekend. Since we have visited the entire city center (if you have not read it, I recommend it, it includes a map).
In this entry, we are going to explain the second day in Valdivia and we will walk around its surroundings, we will be able to see its lush nature and its historical past. If you do not have a car, you can reach all of them by bus or taxi.
The surroundings of Valdivia, like the city, are dominated by water and the color green. That is why to get to know this area better we will go to the northwest of the city. There we will find parks and spectacular viewpoints.

The first stop of the day is Oncol Park, which is located about 30 km from Valdivia. It is easily accessible and has different paths that lead to the viewpoints. The entrance is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. so you can arrive early, take the tour and take advantage of eating something in the picnic areas. It is priced at 5,000 pesos and can be purchased online on its official website or directly at the park.

Our next stop is another viewpoint: Punta Curiñaco. It is an area on the edge of the sea, organized into four simple trails of about 10 km of route. Walking through them you can observe all the native fauna and flora. The coastal viewpoints are unmissable. Picnics are not allowed in this reserve. Admission costs $3,000 and the hours are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
In the image below you can see the trails, they are all on the official page of the park.

To end the day, we will head further south to observe a bit of the city's history. As we already said, Valdivia is a port city; in its beginnings, they built fortifications to be able to defend it. And the next stop is from this time.

The Castillo de la Pura y Limpia Concepción is a museum located in a defensive fort located at a strategic point. The views from there are also spectacular. It is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to enter.
Do you prefer going to the mountains or seeing more of the historical part of the places?
